Day 1 - San Diego to Alpine

We are embarking on our third consecutive cross country tour.  Today the weather was beautiful in San Diego as we left the Pacific  Ocean.  At about mile 20, I lost my wingman Henry.  Henry's bad karma with his Trek Domane, aka devil bike, continued.  At mile 20 he experienced a Di2 electronic shifting breakdown and had to be rescued by our mechanic Coach. The ride ended for both of us with a seven mile climb up to Alpine, CA.

Meet the 2020 coasters.  This year 46 riders from the United States, Canada, England & Netherlands are embarking on this journey.

Henry & Adrian are exuberant and seen high fiving prior to the ride.

Followed by a more composed look.

At our first SAG stop, Johanne a fellow 2019 coast 2 coast rider is seen holding a large knife.  It's clear the riders will need to be on good behavior in 2020.

View along the 7 mile climb to Alpine.

A good ride for the two of us ends at a Brewery.  Today we are in luck and enjoying some craft beer at Alpine Beer Company.

Would you walk a mile uphill for a 11% abv triple IPA, maybe 2?  We did...the boys are back.

Tomorrow will be our most difficut climbing day on the ride as we cycle to Jacumba.  That's all for now....
